Some Days

Some days
All of the desks
Line up
The floor is clean
And the carpet doesn’t need
Sweeping

The internet strength
glows excellent
the computer connects and
the smartboard is calibrated

The staplers willingly mash papers
tape is not tangled
glue runs freely
the markers are juicy with ink

Some days the sky is pristine
The air is transparently clear
The sky pulls me to itself
Adding inches and enlarging my
Spirit

Some days the song
That runs through my head
Is one of gratitude and hope

The children are all fed
There is plenty on the table
Their houses are heated and the
Minds are at rest

They exude curiosity and kindness
Books are dropped and many hands
Stop to scoop them up.

Some days

Wallace Stevens

Final Soliloquy of the Interior Paramour

Light the first light of evening, as in a room
In which we rest and, for small reason, think
The world imagined is the ultimate good.

This is, therefore, the intensest rendezvous.
It is in that thought that we collect ourselves,
Out of all the indifferences, into one thing:

Within a single thing, a single shawl
Wrapped tightly round us, since we are poor, a warmth,
A light, a power, the miraculous influence.

Here, now, we forget each other and ourselves.
We feel the obscurity of an order, a whole,
A knowledge, that which arranged the rendezvous.

Within its vital boundary, in the mind.
We say God and the imagination are one...
How high that highest candle lights the dark.

Out of this same light, out of the central mind,
We make a dwelling in the evening air,
In which being there together is enough.

Green Shirt Victory

Green Shirt Victory

Scared but there (Milton)
Walking not running (the race)
Spirit wllining
Sneakers ready (new Reboks!)

Walking 5K (really a running race)
Smiling at others (wishing for a new friend)
Happy just to BE
in sunshine (and alive)

Finish line (far away)
Not important (really)
When I get there (last person!)
I know
It's all really
About the journey.

Navy Blue Purse
Navy blue metal silk purse
Light, compact, pleasing to the touch
Soothed your grandsons’ restlessness
in church on Sundays.

Always a tissue
and a smile
prayer for the boys
that they prosper and grow.

They have Mom
And yes
I know
You
Are still
Proud of them.
